My research group and I work on a variety of problems in the general area of thermofluids, including:

  • Experimental studies of turbulent flow, and the mixing that occurs therein, including:
    • - Effects of finite Reynolds and PĂ©clet numbers on turbulent scalar mixing
    • - Effects of large scales / initial conditions on turbulent scalar mixing
    • - Simultaneous measurements of velocity and scalars in turbulent flows (to obtain or deduce turbulent scalar fluxes)
    • - Multi-scalar mixing within turbulent flows
    • - Turbulent dispersion in inhomogeneous flows
    • - Effects of background turbulence on the evolution of turbulent free shear flows (jets, wakes, etc.)
    • - Generation of homogeneous, isotropic, high-Reynolds-number turbulence in a laboratory setting
  • Numerical simulations of turbulent mixing
  • Development of novel tools for fundamental and applied research
  • Applied research for industry, focussing on cooling of industrial devices
